2024 Cross Border Tax Workshop - Vienna, Austria

Host Firm: BF Consulting Wirtschaftsprüfungs GmbH

Topic: Tax avoidance, tax havens - quo vadis?

At last year's Tax Workshop in Berlin, we discussed global tax incentives and subsidies as well as countries' tax policies to attract companies and highly qualified employees to their jurisdictions. This is a perspective to "pull" economic activity to the countries with the incentives.

This year, we want to shift the focus and examine the challenges and strategies in the fight against tax havens. We are looking at the mechanisms that "push" economic activity out of tax havens.

The 2024 Cross Border Tax Workshop intends to give participants and overview of the existing measures country by country and by organizations of countries acting together against tax havens around the world. We will discuss tax, and economic effects of government imposed by avoidance measures.

Participants from the different countries will be kindly requested to prepare a short PowerPoint Presentation on the sprecifics of their country on this subject.

A PowerPoint Presentation template will be sent to each participant after registration. Participants from the same country can work in one group and prepare one presentation together.

After the workshop, a combined presentation for all countries will be available for all members.

Please meet at 6:45PM in the lobby of the Hotel Regina Wien. We will have a pleasant walk (a pleasant tram ride in case of rain) to the restaurant.

The restaurant offers an exciting symbiosis between Viennese traditon and modern design. The culinary focus is on Wiener Schnitzel, prepared according to the original recipe and using the choicest cut of veal. It is said to be the best Wiener Schnitzel in town. To accompany your meal, try a beer brewed by the city's largest brewery or enjoy a carefully selected wine.

Ewald Plachutta is one of Vienna's most famous kitchen chefs and he owns six restaurants which are now managed by his son. He wrote several cooking books.

The restaurant is located in the city center, behind the famous Opera House. We will either walk to the restaurant (30 minutes) and enjoy the charm of Vienna's old town, or take the tram in case of rain.

Saturday Dinner at "Mayer am Pfarrplatz"

This is a very famous traditonal winery, called "Heuriger" by the people in Austria. Viennese Heuriger culture brings joie de vivre and enjoyment to the table. An extensive hot and cold buffet with homemade seasonal specialties offers typical Viennese delicacies and is a welcoming place to relax while sipping an excellent glass of wine.

Mayer' winery has been producing some of the best Viennese wines since 1683. The place has a unique amabiance with people drinking good wines, eating delicious food and enjoying viennese music. We will have a traditional buffet with cold and warm dishes, and red and white wine from Mayer's vineyards.

Mayer am Pfarrplatz is located next to the house where Ludwig van Beethoven lived in 1817 while working on his greatest creation: the Symphony N°9

A bus will take us from the hotel to the "Heuriger" at 6:30 PM and back to the hotel at 10:00 PM.
